Walmart has pretty much removed any doubt it's a sociopathic institution and a menace to society on par with ISIS.
Item: Walmart said that injuries sustained by Tracy Morgan and other comedians traveling with him in a June car crash involving a Walmart driver could have been prevented if the performers had been wearing seatbelts. Mr. Morgan, a former star of “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock,” was critically hurt, and another comedian, James McNair, was killed on the morning of June 7 when the luxury van they were riding in on the New Jersey Turnpike was struck and overturned by a Walmart tractor-trailer. Ardie Fuqua, a comedian, and Jeffrey Millea, Mr. Morgan’s assistant, were also injured.
Prosecutors charged the truck’s driver, Kevin Roper, with vehicular homicide and said that he had not slept in more than 24 hours at the time of the crash; he has pleaded not guilty. A report from the National Transportation Safety Board said Mr. Roper was driving 65 miles per hour in a 45-m.p.h. construction zone.
Walmart, realizing its reputation is lower than ISIS, didn't hesitate to file in United States District Court in New Jersey. Lawyers for Walmart said that “plaintiffs’ injuries, if any, were caused, in whole or in part, by plaintiffs’ failure to properly wear an appropriate available seatbelt restraint device.” “By failing to exercise ordinary care in making use of available seatbelts, upon information and belief, plaintiffs acted unreasonably and in disregard of plaintiffs’ own best interests,” the lawyers’ response continued. “Accordingly, all or a portion of the injuries could have been diminished or minimized by the exercise of reasonable conduct in using the available seatbelts.”
Yeah, that's some Verdict.
Benedict Morelli, a lawyer representing Mr. Morgan, Mr. Fuqua and Mr. Millea in the lawsuit, said in a telephone interview on Tuesday, “When a tractor-trailer hits your vehicle, at a dead stop, at 65 miles an hour, seatbelts have nothing to do with it.”
So be careful the next time you shop at Walmart. God forbid you get crushed by a Walmart forklift or get food poisoning, you can bet Walmart will send out its crack legal team to find you at fault.
